WWII vet Rudolph Hirsch, 98

Rudolph Hirsch died Nov. 14, 2017. He was 98.

A businessman, soldier and survivor of several fronts of World War II, he was born in Saarbrucken, on the French/German border. He fought with the French Foreign Legion against the Nazis before emigrating to the United States, where he was drafted by the U.S. Army to return to Europe in the 589th Field Artillery, 106th Field Infantry Division.

He was a recipient of the French Legion of Honor from the French Republic for his military service in 2012. 

He is survived by his wife Renee, his son Claude and daughter-in-law Linda, grandson Matthew, niece Alison Pavia, and many other loving nieces and nephews in South Africa, France and the United States.

He was a beautiful man.

Services were held last week at Congregation Adath Israel in Riverdale.
