After Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the state legislature’s redistricting plans into law late last week, much of this corner of the Bronx will be represented by Congressman Ritchie Torres instead of Jamaal Bowman’s. Former city Campaign Finance Board general counsel Sue Dodell says she believes Torres may be more ideologically aligned with this particular area.

New York voters will have the chance to weigh in on five ballot proposals Nov. 2 that, if passed, would amend certain parts of the state constitution. Voting yes on the second proposal is intended to give anyone living in the state the right to clean air, water and a healthy environment.

While last June’s Democratic primary probably determined the most important elections in the city, voters can still have an impact this November by filling out five proposals on the backside of their ballots. The third and fourth proposals are long-term goals from voting rights advocates, intended to eliminate the requirement to register to vote 10 days before an election and to let people vote absentee without an excuse.
