A hearing about the new charter will take place on Thursday, Jan. 19, at PS/MS 279, located at 2100 Walton Ave. The speaker sign-up period will run from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. and a presentation will take place at 6:45 p.m.

TI Charter, which will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., has a curriculum that emphasizes technology, family involvement and international connections. Each student will receive an e-reader and a computer and will communicate with their peers from around the world via YouTube, Skype and e-mail. Families will be asked to come in over the summer for computer training so administrators can meet parents/guardians face to face, according to co-founder and executive director Steve Bergen.
