Fire knows no time. This proved especially true for residents at 511 W. 232nd St., where a fire broke out shortly after midnight Aug. 1.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the fifth-floor apartment where it originated. Tenants evacuated themselves, according to firefighters on the scene who met them in the hallway, and only one was hurt — a minor arm injury — refusing further medical attention.
Engines 52 and 81, as well as Ladder 46, were on scene within minutes of the call just after 1 a.m., and had the fire under control less than an hour later.
Their efforts drew a small crowd of onlookers in the dead of the night.
Firefighters don’t know what caused the fire, and it remains under investigation.
