A.I.M An Untitled Love

Be among the first to experience An Untitled Love from award-winning choreographer and Purchase grad Kyle Abraham. This evening-length dance work is sonically rooted in R&B/Soul Music, comprised of the catalogue of Grammy Award-winning R&B legend D’Angelo. It is a creative exaltation, centered on the often overlooked love and unity that exists within the black community.

A Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award winner, Doris Duke Artist Award winner, and MacArthur “Genius” Fellow, Kyle Abraham is one of today’s most in-demand choreographers, and the first black choreographer commissioned to create a work for the New York City Ballet in over a decade. Abraham was born into the hip-hop culture of the late 1970s and incorporates an artistic upbringing of classical cello, piano, and the visual arts into his work with A.I.M. Through a sensual and provocative vocabulary entwined with a strong emphasis on sound, human behavior, and all things visual, A.I.M strives to create an avenue for personal investigation, exposed on stage.

In 1995, I entered Morgan State Univ., a Historically Black University (HBCU) in Baltimore. My entire immediate family had attended an HBCU, and I was to be no exception. My older sister formed many lasting friendships during her 4 years at Spelman College. My parents met & married while attending (another HBCU) Central State University, in 1968. During my time at Morgan State, I fell in love in a different capacity - with D'Angelo's debut album "Brown Sugar". That love has never waned. D’Angelo’s music has played an integral part in my deep appreciation for the richness of Soul - R&B music. Within his music exists the histories and Neo-romanticism of black love in America.
