Another weekend without the 1 train

Posted

If you plan to leave the Bronx this weekend, consider making the journey to the 4 train.

That's because, once again, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is shutting down train service between 96th Street and Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street because of track and switch maintenance near 137th Street.

Trains in this part of the Bronx will stop beginning at 11:15 p.m., Friday night, and won't start again until just ahead of the morning rush at 5 a.m., on Monday, June 24. That means 1 trains will only run between South Ferry and 96th Street.

As has happened in the past service disruptions, free shuttle buses will be available, as well as M3 and M100 buses, that will take commuters to the A and C trains instead.

Buses run along four routes. Travelers can ride the A train to nearby stations, with a transfer to the 1 at 59th Street. The MTA also will have a shuttle bus to 168th Street, between the A and 1 stations along Dyckman Street, and a shuttle to the 207th street station for the A train.

And through July, the uptown 1 train platform at Franklin Street in Manhattan remains exit only because of flood protection equipment installation. For uptown service, the MTA recommends taking a downtown train to Chambers Street, and then transferring to an uptwon train from there, or using the nearby Canal Street station.
