BCA names 32 arts grant winners from greater Riverdale

The Bronx Council on the Arts has awarded $160,000 in grants to 32 northwest Bronx artists and organizations as part of its annual Bronx Community Engagement Grants and Bronx Recognizes its Own competitions.

Each of the winners received $5,000 grants to carry out community arts projects they have proposed over the next year.

Each year, the BCA provides individual artists and organizations the opportunity to apply for funds to support grassroots and organizational community-centered arts and culture initiatives and projects.

Local winners honored by the Bronx Council on the Arts included:

For the arts fund, Watoku Ueno, Seyi Adebanjo, Lia Bautista, Jeanai La Vita, Ann Roggen, di.vi.sion arts and education, Anna Tonna, Bardekova Ensemble, Roy Secord, Ivan Velez, Silver Shoes Dance Club, and Lauren Sowa.

Community arts winners were MazArte Dance Co., Bronx School for Music, Van Cortlandt Park Alliance, and the Riverdale Neighborhood House.

New Work winner was Imani Wallace, while BRIO winners were, for literary arts, Kevin Kane, Ellen Kombiyil, Emily Raboteau, Sasha Reiter, Court Wayne.

For media arts, Natasha Rivera and Pamela Sporn. For performing arts, Laura Kaminsky and George Nazos.

And for visual arts, Manal Abu-Shaheen, Rebecca Allan, Stephanie Ayala, Shelly Haven, Susan MacMurdy and Agnes Murray.
