CB8 community service, business award nominees sought

Posted

Bronx Community Board 8 is accepting nominations for the annual Irving Ladimer Community Service and Betty Campbell Adams Most Valuable Merchant awards.

The only criteria for the Ladimer award is that the nominee has acted on a volunteer basis to improve or enhance the quality of life of those living or working in the Bronx Community Board 8 area.

The nominations are open to individuals, organizations, or groups with a civic interest in the community. Those who are salaried for their efforts or who perform these services as an extension of their studies or professional responsibility are not eligible for this award. Previous community service awardees volunteered to support people who are homeless or disabled.

The Ladimer award is named after the former CB8 member whose passion was civics and volunteering for the community. He died at 102 in 2018. Nominations must be received by Saturday, April 15. Submit nominations by email, bx08@cb.nyc.gov (subject: CSA Nomination) or by regular postal mail, Bronx Community Board 8, 5676 Riverdale Ave., Suite 100, Bronx, NY 10471, Attn: CSA Nomination

An application form for both awards is available on the CB8 website at cbbronx.cityofnewyork.us/cb8/.

The merchant MVP award will honor the merchants in the community that have worked to enhance economic growth, improve community relations, and increase civic participation.

Betty Campbell Adams was an iconic entrepreneur who founded The Lloyd’s Carrot Cake and was devoted to the betterment of the community. The award committee wants to recognize outstanding local merchants that can in some small way be rewarded to follow her example.

Entries must include the name of the business or merchant being nominated along with contact information; type of business (e.g. manufacturing, tech, retail, service); a description, nature and impact of the contribution made to CB8 by the merchant or business. The individual or organization offering the nomination must also be identified, including a contact number.

Submit nominations by email or by regular postal mail to bx08@cb.nyc.gov (subject “MVM Nomination”) or Bronx Community Board 8, 5676 Riverdale Avenue, Suite 100 Bronx, NY 10471, Attn: MVM Nomination.

Awards will be presented at an upcoming Community Board meeting. For any further information, contact the board office at (718) 884-3959 or email bx08@cb.nyc.gov
