Celebrating new Sunday hours at the Kingsbridge Library

Posted

Dear Community Members,

When I was a middle schooler, I spent countless afternoons at the Kingsbridge Library. It’s where I wrote my first poems, registered my first email address, checked out books and movies, did homework, and met friends. As a teacher, I brought my students there after school to do the same because I knew what those doors could unlock.

Now, thanks to the funding we secured in the FY 2026 budget, even more neighbors will be able to enjoy everything the library offers — on Sundays.

Please join me for a press conference outside the Kingsbridge Library, 291 W. 231st St. on Sunday, Sept. 7 at noon to celebrate the launch of Sunday service at our branch.

Beginning Sunday, Sept. 7, the Kingsbridge Library will be open every Sunday from 1 ro 5:00 p.m., giving children, students, families and older adults more opportunities to enjoy programs, technology and resources.

This expansion is part of a citywide initiative made possible through a $2 million allocation from the NYC Council and Speaker Adrienne Adams. Eleven libraries across New York City received funding to add Sunday hours. I fought to ensure Kingsbridge was included, so the North Bronx has seven-day-a-week access to learning and enrichment.

Libraries are lifelines. They are places where children discover the joy of reading, students find quiet space to grow, job-seekers connect to opportunities and neighbors come together. I’ve seen that transformation as a kid from this community and as an educator in our schools. With Sunday hours, even more Bronxites will get that chance.

Please join us on Sunday, Sept. 7. Bring the whole family. Kids especially are welcome! I look forward to celebrating this milestone with you.

Council Member, District 11
