Construction of Riverdale Ave apartment building at top height

Mark Stagg’s newest 18-story apartment development at 3745 Riverdale Ave. has reached its full height. The final floors seemed to rise at lightning speed this month.

In the last week of January, construction crews were working on the 13th floor.

It’s part of Stagg’s final cohort of 421-a developments in the Bronx — for now, at least — after state lawmakers allowed the tax abatement to expire last year.

Mitchell Newman drew designs for the so-called “luxury affordable” residence.

After topping off the building, workers will begin putting on its “skin,” Community Board 8 land use member Marty Wolpoff reported during the committee’s Feb. 6 meeting.

Wolpoff chairs a subcommittee that has been monitoring the construction site and fielding concerns from neighbors. The subcommittee members meet monthly with Stagg construction site supervisor Jay Martino.

“I’m very surprised and happy to report working with Jay Martino and Stagg has been pleasant,” Wolpoff said. “It didn’t start off that way, but it is now a very pleasant experience. And I think he understands the community’s interest.”

CB8 passed a resolution last fall consenting to construction work taking place on Saturdays, but the city’s buildings department was slow to approve the permit, according to reports, causing project delays in December.
