Cruz leaves White House

Posted

A Riverdale/Kingsbridge Academy alum who made his way from graduation to the White House in less than a decade, has left his role inside the Trump administration.

Anthony Cruz stepped down as regional communications director for Hispanic media at the White House in early August, he told friends and acquaintances in a group message.

“Growing up in the Bronx, working in the White House was once a pipe dream,” wrote Cruz, who also worked in both U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel’s and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s offices. “When I arrived in D.C. in September 2015 knowing no one, I rolled my suitcase down the halls of Congress in search of a job.”

Cruz now heads to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan MBA program with a Dean’s Fellowship.

He graduated from RKA in 2011 where he described himself as a “nerd.”

With his mother an immigrant from Ecuador and his father’s family from Cuba, Cruz grew up with Spanish in his household — a language fluency that has helped him in Washington.
