Democracy is slipping away

To the editor,

The completely meritless indictment of former FBI Director James Comey — and we know it is meritless, because career federal prosecutors have repeatedly warned the Justice Department that their case against Comey has no merit — is just the latest example in the terrifying and rapid descent of our democracy into a system where the rule of law has vanished.

Senator Adam Schiff of California has repeatedly said that all the dreadful actions taken by this administration could be reversed if only a small number of Republican senators and representatives would join Democrats in ending this very real destruction of our democracy.

Do none of the members of the GOP in Congress care what kind of country their children and grandchildren will inherit if we do not stop the president and his allies from continuing down this destructive path?
