The Bronx Assembly Delegation has a new leader. Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz will take the reins from Assemblyman Peter Rivera, who left the Assembly after Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed him to lead the state Department of Labor last year.
The 11 Bronx members of the Assembly came to a consensus and Mr. Dinowitz will now be the point person on legislative issues that affect the Bronx.
Mr. Dinowitz was a logical choice for the post. He shares the title of most senior Bronx member of the Assembly with Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo.
Mr. Dinowitz said he was honored to be chosen by his colleagues to lead them in the Assembly.
“We are a delegation of 11. Eleven out of 107 Democrats. We believe that if we work together as a unit, as a unified delegation, that we have an impact on things,” Mr. Dinowitz said.
The Bronx delegation gathers in Albany to discuss legislative issues and to make sure the Bronx’s voice is heard, especially on budget issues. Mr. Dinowitz said there are important issues for the Bronx coming up in this session, and he specifically mentioned increasing the minimum wage as one of them.
