POLICE BEAT

Double, triple lock work zones

Construction sites seem to one of the more desirable targets for burglars as of late. Probably because they often contain a trove of expensive tools and equipment that can be hawked for a profit.

One thief decided to join this trend Jan. 22, making his way into a closed construction site at 157 W. Kingsbridge Road. When cops arrived, they say they saw him and placed him under arrest.

He was charged with burglary, possession of burglar tools, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal trespassing.

Two more CR-Vs stolen

It might be time for Police Beat to be renamed “Stolen CR-V Beat” considering the ongoing theft of Honda CR-Vs has seemingly become the most common crime in this corner of the Bronx.  In fact, two more of the mid-sized SUVs were stolen in recent weeks.

The first took place at the corner of Sedgwick and Gouverneur avenues. There a woman told police she parked her car around 8 p.m. on Jan. 25, returning the next morning on her way to work to find it missing.

She called 311 and some towing companies to see if she just parked where she shouldn’t, but no one had her 2019 model CR-V, which police valued at $30,000.

The next day, another of the same SUV was stolen in front of the 60 block of Van Cortlandt Park West. There a woman told police she parked her car their around dinnertime, but discovered it missing when she returned at 8:45.

She says the car was locked and she’s the only one with keys. Plus, she has no outstanding parking tickets.
