POLICE BEAT

Fishing isn't just for lakes, rivers anymore

The long-running northwest Bronx check-fishing scam continues, as a 31-year-old woman told police she wrote out a check for more than $1,600 and shipped it off to its destination through the U.S. Postal Service.

That journey was interrupted, however, when someone reportedly found the check and deposited into a bank account it was not intended to go into.

When the woman received notice that her chunk of change hadn’t made it to the person who needed it about three weeks after it was first mailed, she walked right into the 50th Precinct to make the report.

Officers are still investigating the theft.

Hey, hey, hey, goodbye

A lot of cars get stolen, and you might even hear about it happening a block over. But you never quite believe it’ll ever happen to you. Until it does.

Sometime before 10:30 a.m., on Feb. 11, a thief made off with a 2019 Honda CR-V, which police valued at $32,000.

The 66-year-old driver left his car on the southwest corner of Independence Avenue and West 239th Street four days earlier, according to police. He returned to find not even a single piece of broken glass to explain what happened to his ride.

Detectives are investigating.
