Foot Locker coming to Marble Hill soon

Posted

Payless ShoeSource left West 225th Street months ago, but Marble Hill shouldn’t have to wait too long to find a new local source of shoes.

Foot Locker is eyeing a 4,700-square-foot space at River Plaza, 90 W. 225th St., according to Commercial Observer. It would join 10 locations in the Bronx, as well as a “power store” located on 181st Street in Washington Heights.

It’s been nothing but good news for that particular structure, that also borders the eastern side of Broadway. Diamond Braces is set to take over nearly 3,000 square feet at the plaza, and RiverSpring at Home — the senior care provider affiliated with the Hebrew Home at Riverdale — is expanding another 6,000 square feet on top of its existing 20,000 square feet of space, according to the business publication.

River Plaza opened in 2004 and boasts tenants like Marshall’s, Target and Sprint.

Police make arrests in unrelated incidents

Mark Sacks, 46, a former Riverdale Press employee, was arrested June 21 on charges of promoting the sexual performance of a child younger than 17, and possessing sexual performance of a child, according to police.

In an unrelated incident, an employee of the city’s Department of Correction was arrested while off-duty within the confines of the 50th Precinct.

Christopher Sierra, 27, was charged with rape and for committing a criminal sexual act.

Convicted gang leader sentenced

The leader of a Bronx gang known as the Gangsta Milla Bloods was sentenced to 17 years in prison in connection with a Kingsbridge Heights shooting in 2017 that left three bystanders wounded.

Leonard Mathews, 27, ordered the shooting of a man he previously fought with, according to prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s office. When the foot soldier failed to kill the intended target and instead shot three innocent bystanders, Mathews ordered the man stabbed and left for dead.

The unsuccessful hit took place Oct. 20, 2017, outside an apartment building on Morris Avenue between East Kingsbridge Road and East 196th Street, just two blocks from Lehman College.

All three victims survived.

Mathews was convicted of aiding and abetting an assault with a firearm, racketeering, possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, and other weapons-related charges.
