Frances Segan, food pantry director, 78

Longtime educator and administrator Frances Segan of North Riverdale was known for all things Riverdale. That included being director of the KRMH Food & Hunger Project Inc.

She passed away at her home on Dec. 22, 2022, at 78.

The project that serves  homebound senior citizens and others in need in Kingsbridge, Riverdale and Marble Hill, collects non-perishable items and distributes them through the Episcopal Church of the Mediator.

She helped run the food project, which was vital during the recent pandemic.

An expert in curriculum design and professional development for the New York City education department and several universities, she was a board member of the Bronx Arts Ensemble and Bronx Council on the Arts. She also was a member of Riverdale Temple.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree (cum laude) at Hunter College, a Ph.D., at Fordham University and administration certification at Bank Street College and Columbia University.

She is survived by her son, Marc Segan and wife Kristen, and their children Michael and Adam; her daughter Danielle Tocaben, her partner Cole Church, and her children Noah and Elliot.

The funeral service was held at Riverdale Temple on Dec. 30.
