Harriet Charles, a teacher at P.S. 24 Spuyten Duyvil

A longtime teacher and administrator for P.S. 24 Spuyten Duyvil Harriet E. Charles passed away on Nov. 6, 2022.

She was 98.

She was wife to the late Leo Charles, a former doctor who worked on the Grand Concourse. She is survived by her son Barry Charles — a certified public accountant from New Rochelle — and his family.

She was a first grade teacher, assistant principal and acting principal at P.S. 24 over a 30-year span.

“She touched all the lives of the children she taught,” her son said.

Shalom Jewish Funeral Home, 1528 Castle Hill Ave., handled arrangements. A funeral was held at the Riverdale Temple, where she was a member.
