Honda's airbag heist

Posted

How does one steal airbags from a car? That’s one question a perp was able to answer after stealing this common safety tool and other items from a vehicle sometime between July 28 and July 29.

The victim told police she parked her 2021 black Honda Civic on the 90 block of Van Cortlandt Park West before returning the next day to find someone had broken into it.

Missing were the car’s airbags, a pair of Fendi sunglasses, and an Apple Watch. Police valued the stolen items at $2,150.

Detectives from the 50th Precinct are still investigating.

A fair weather friend

People are generally afraid of being attacked by strangers, but sometimes it’s your friends you really need to watch out for.

Unfortunately, this came true for one man who was attacked by his friend on July 24.

It all took place on the 3000 block of Albany Crescent around 11 a.m., police said. The friend reportedly hit him in the head with a hammer several times, causing cuts and bruises. The friend then stole the man’s bracelet — valued at $10,000 — as well as his Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

But the violence reportedly didn’t stop there. As the man tried to run away, police say his friend hit him with his car, causing cuts and bruises to his right arm.

The friend then took off on Bailey Avenue.

Cops, however, got to the bottom of this case quickly, making an arrest around 3 that afternoon. They charged the friend with robbery and assault in the second degree as well as criminal possession of stolen property.

Stacking my cash

Counting money is probably best to do in private and not on the street. One victim could’ve used this advice when he was robbed for doing this exact thing on the 2600 block of Reservoir Avenue.

It took place around 1:50 a.m., on July 29, police said, when a man was counting his money.  Two other men walked up to him, threatening him with some kind of weapon. They ultimately took $100 from him before taking off down Kingsbridge Road.

Cops have some leads on this robbery as there was camera footage from a nearby building. The first perp was described as a Black man, 5-foot-10 with long hair. The second was described as a Black man, standing at 5 feet, with short hair.
