LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

It’s time to address those trucks

To the editor:

Illegal parking by commercial trucks: They are all over the Bronx and are cropping up more and more at every turn.

I have been trying to get the police to do something about the trucks parked daily and illegally at West Gunhill Road and Mosholu Parkway. I made 311 complaints for six weeks. I have contacted the borough president’s office — one tepid response — and Councilman Eric Dinowitz’s office.

Dinowitz’s ombudsman responded twice, but sent me a letter stating the police basically have no answers for it.

She’s well-meaning, but ineffective. She’s also a low-level person, so possibly the precinct doesn’t care either.

The trucks — some without cabs — cause unsafe driving for school buses and pedestrians, especially at dusk. And yet there is no action. Yet, on the same stretch of road, pedestrian cars are towed almost daily.

This issue would never continue if it was 86th and Park, nor Fieldston and West 246th. They are now cropping up on the west side of the Henry Hudson Parkway, and West 238th Street and Riverdale Avenue.

This is your community. Does anybody care? I am shocked at the amount of time and energy I have put into trying to draw attention to the problem, not to mention get some results.

The lack of attention from the Bronx borough president’s office is particularly sad. Politicians want our vote, but then are silent and absent when the first request comes in.
