Let’s make 'affordable housing' affordable

To the editor:

In the Dec. 12 article, "Van Cortlandt Jewish Center no more?," there is mention of a proposal to build some affordable housing in its place. The housing would be affordable for individuals making $43,480 a year and families making $62,120.
On Jan. 1st, the minimum wage for NYC, Westchester and Long Island rose to $16.50 an hour. That amounts to $34,320 a year. Perhaps the legislature should consider making the minimum wage high enough to make affordable housing actually affordable.
