Making way for a few picky robbers

Posted

In many ways, robbers are not very different from the rest of us. For instance, some of us might be picky eaters. At the same time, some car robbers are picky about which parts of the vehicle they’ll take.

That’s one possible explanation for a Jan. 10 grand larceny on the 3100 block of Henry Hudson Parkway. A man told police he parked there around 6:45 p.m., returning to find the front tires and a lane-assist sensor had been stolen.

Police valued the loot at $1,200, and are investigating.

Please take your keys

If there’s one message people should take away from reading Police Beat each week, it’s never leave their cars running with the keys inside.

Ever.

Perhaps if one woman had heeded this advice, her car wouldn’t have been stolen in the late afternoon of Jan. 9. She told police she parked in front of her business and ran inside for a quick errand, leaving her keys in the car. When she came out, someone had driven off with her 2020 Chevy Camaro.

They were last seen heading south on Broadway toward Manhattan.

Police continue to investigate.

Elevator robbery

There are likely many reasons why people are afraid of elevators. But perhaps one of the biggest is the fear of getting stuck with someone — especially someone who’s trying to hurt you.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what one woman had to deal with Jan. 10 inside her building on the 100 block of West 195th Street. She told police she was on her way home when her boyfriend followed her into her building’s elevator.

He reportedly was upset, interrogating her about who she’s been seeing. At one point, police said he tried to take her purse so he could rifle through and find her phone inside. After failing to do that, however, he reportedly pushed her into the wall and struck her several times, eventually running away empty handed.

Cops describe the boyfriend as a 24-year-old Hispanic man. Detectives from the 50th Precinct continue to investigate.
