Man in wheelchair robbed by a pair of perps

A 64-year-old man who was sitting in a wheelchair in front of 235 West Kingsbridge Road on April 11 at 8:30 p.m. was robbed by two men who approached him and demanded money.

The man refused and was punched in the head. The robbers took a cellphone from his pocket and fled. The man was brought to Saint Barnabas Hospital and is in stable condition.

The first suspect is described as a man with a medium complexion, medium build, black hair and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with “Chinatown Market” written on the front, ripped jeans, and black sneakers, police said.

The second suspect is described as a man with a medium complexion and slim build. He was last seen wearing glasses, a black winter hat with a Nike logo, a dark bubble jacket with a light-colored hood, light colored pants, and black and white Nike sneakers, police said.

Arrest made in fatal collision

Brian Spira, 54, of the Bronx has been arrested and charged, following a fatal collision on July 27, 2022 that took the life of long-time resident Bernice Schwartz, 99.

The collision was investigated by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad and Spira was charged with failure to yield and failure to exercise due care.

The victim was crossing at the intersection at Oxford and West 235 streets when Spira made left turn with a 2022 Mazda CX9 and struck her.
Schwartz suffered severe head trauma and was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Schwartz was known for her volunteer work with her late husband, Arthur, at SAR Academy and being very lively by people who saw her at her synagogue, The Bayit.

Man arraigned on
pet abuse charges

Trinton Hatton of 5550 Netherland Ave. was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court April 27 on charges of torture, injure, no feed animal following an April 7 incident.

After multiple 311 calls made by neighbors, Hatton, 33, was arrested and charged at the corner of West 256 Street and Riverdale Avenue.

The criminal complaint accuses Hatton of torturing and injuring animals, detailing one specific incident where surveillance footage allegedly shows him kicking a dog belonging to his partner multiple times while inside an elevator, police from the 50th Precinct said.

An informant observed Hatton entering the elevator and heard a dog making whimpering noises alongside loud bangs coming from the elevator.

He allegedly said in sum and substance, “Mind your business.”

Burglar caught for burglarizing home

A 5920 Post Road home was burglarized on April 1 around 10 a.m. Clothing and sneakers worth $160 were stolen.

The perpetrator left the scene but was caught by police and charged with burglary.

Multiple packages stolen from home

A 3875 Waldo Ave. home was burglarized on April 3 around 12:50 p.m.

The person entered through the front doors of the residence and walked out with several packages he did not own, police said.

Honda CRV taken

The owner of a 2020 Honda CRV reported her vehicle stolen opposite 2251 Edsall Ave. sometime between April 10 at 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The victim said she had left it locked.
There was no surveillance footage at the location.
