Hany Guirguis, who served as the interim dean at Manhattan University’s O’Malley School of Business since 2024, was officially named dean of the school last week.
Fully tenured, Giurguis joined Manhattan University in 2000 and in 2010, he became a professor of economics and finance and chaired the department until 2018. From 2013 to 2018, he was named the Louis E. Capalbo Professor of Business and since 2019, he has held the Ambassador Charles A. Gargano Endowed Chair.
Guirguis published extensively on the topics of real estate finance, macroeconomics, financial modeling and applied economics. In addition to his tenure at Manhattan University, he has taught at several institutions, including Columbia University, Portland State University, the University of Oregon and Oregon State University.
“In my short time with the university, Hany has impressed me with his drive and commitment to the students, faculty and the school,” Kenneth E. Sumner, provost of Manhattan University said. “We look forward to his successful tenure as the O’Malley School of Business dean, working in partnership with the deans of the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences and our School of Engineering.”
Guirguis has been active in the university’s academic community, serving in the University Senate, the Educational Affairs Committee and the Council for Faculty Affairs.
“I am both humbled and honored to have been named to this position. Along with my colleagues, I look forward to the exceptional opportunities and challenges that exist to take the business school to new heights,” Guirguis said. “With rigorous training and hands-on experience in the business world, our students can work with leaders in the field, taking advantage of our New York City location. I also plan to focus on AI and machine learning [and] introduce new master programs that combine analytics knowledge with finance, marketing and accounting.”
He holds a Ph.D. in macroeconomics and econometrics from the University of Oregon, a master’s in business administration in finance and investment from Baruch College, a Master’s in science in economics from the University of Oregon, a M.A. in economics from American University in Cairo and a B.A. in accounting and business administration from the University of Helwan, Cairo.
