Mejia is formally arraigned, remanded

Jonathan Mejia, who was arrested on May 3 in New Jersey for murdering his uncle, has finally been extradited to New York and formally charged by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors there are pursuing murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon charges.

According to the criminal complaint, Mejia allegedly shot his uncle, Daniel Valdez, multiple times, yet little detail is given beyond that.

Records show attorney Raymond Aab represents him. According to the DA’s office, Mejia most recently appeared in court on May 31.

 

Attempted robbery turns violent

A Key Food store employee was injured after he confronted a man trying to steal from the store located at 540 W. 235th St.

According to police, on May 15 at 1:45 p.m. the employee observed a man removing items from the rack and attempt to leave the store without paying. The suspect then pulled out a knife and slashed the employee in the face, according to the report, after the worker tried to stop him.

Officers arrived on the scene soon after and arrested the alleged perpetrator, ultimately charging him.
