More endorsements make their way in

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera — who leads the latest push for universal health care in New York — has made a choice in the March 23 city council special election: Mino Lora and Jessica Haller.

“By offering ranked-choice endorsements, I hope that our community will be empowered to make their own choices in these important upcoming special elections,” Rivera said, in a release. “Mino Lora is a fierce advocate for the future that we need in the Bronx, and would be a tireless partner in confronting the systems that hold us back.”

One of the five other candidates challenging Lora and Haller in their attempt to succeed Andrew Cohen is Eric Dinowitz, who earned the endorsement of former U.S. Rep. Liz Holtzman.

“I know he is ready to fight to get the vaccine to our under-served communities, help small businesses get relief, and make sure our older adults have the resources they need,” Holtzman said of the former teacher, who also is the son of longtime Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz.

For the June primary, Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson has picked up some support for her bid to succeed Ruben Diaz Jr., as Bronx borough president.

Gibson has earned the endorsement of city public advocate Jumaane Williams.

“Having worked with her on the city council, I know she’s what the Bronx needs to help address disparities that have been exacerbated by the pandemic,” Williams said, in a release.

That includes health care, hunger, affordable housing and gun violence.

“We need to continue elevating strong leaders as we work towards an equitable recovery from the pandemic,” he added.

Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams got a boost in his bid for mayor last week after earning the endorsement of the Hotel Trades Council.
