Mother arrested in death of Amalgamated toddlers

Posted

Two years after a tight-knit community was rocked with the death of toddler siblings, police say they've arrested a New Jersey woman they believe is responsible for the Amalgamated Housing tragedy.

Jade Spencer, 33, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, was charged with two counts of manslaughter in the July 2017 deaths of Olivia Gee, 2, and Micah Gee, 3. First responders found the two unconscious and unresponsive in their 98 Van Cortlandt Park apartment just after 1 a.m. on July 10 that year. Both were rushed to Montefiore Medical Center where they died.

Spencer is the children's mother, who initially called 911, police said at the time. Early reports suggested severe asthma may have played a role in their deaths, the chief medical examiner later determined that both died from "blunt impact injuries" found on the torsos of both Olivia and Micah.

Police declared the deaths a double homicide less than a week later.

This is a breaking news story, and will be updated as it develops.
