The University of Mount Saint Vincent’s soccer programs continue to surge through Skyline Conference play, with both the men’s and women’s teams maintaining unbeaten streaks and posting dominant performances on Marillac Field in Riverdale.
For the men’s team, the Dolphins remain one of the most consistent forces in the Skyline, extending their record to 8-0-1 after a 3-0 victory over Farmingdale State College on Saturday. The win marked their longest unbeaten start since 2013, when the program opened the season with nine straight victories.
Junior forward Jenluis Henriquez continued his breakout campaign, scoring twice in the first half. His first came in the 38th minute off a smooth combination from William Sornin and Marti Senyer. His second followed minutes later, with sophomore John Brienza setting him up with a crisp through ball.
The Dolphins’ defense was just as sharp, allowing only six shots all game, and just two in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Samuel Reine collected his sixth shutout of the season, strengthening his position as the conference leader in saves, goals-against average and clean sheets.
In the second half, a foul in the box gave sophomore Javier Trujillo a penalty kick opportunity, which he buried for his fifth goal of the year, sealing a commanding win.
With their latest victory, Mount Saint Vincent remains unbeaten in conference play (4-0-1) and will next host St. Joseph’s University Long Island in Riverdale for a midweek matchup.
The Dolphins’ earlier 4-0 shutout over St. Joseph’s Brooklyn on Sept. 30 showcased the team’s growing chemistry. Henriquez again opened the scoring, followed by goals from Senyer, Anthony Rochester and Luka Gelevski, while the defense limited the Bears to a single shot on goal.
The women’s team has been equally dominant, improving to 6-1-2 overall after a 2-0 victory over Farmingdale State College on Oct. 4 — a rematch of last year’s Skyline Conference championship. The Dolphins controlled play throughout, allowing just one shot and none in the second half.
Freshman Aiyanna Robles Sedano opened the scoring in the 30th minute, taking a cross-field pass from Jazzlyn Cedillo and beating the Rams goalkeeper with a low shot. Late in the match, freshman Ariana Hernandez converted a free kick from outside the box to extend the lead.
Goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez earned her fifth shutout of the season, while defenders Dana DeDominicis, Maddie Halford, Lily Ostiguy and Gisselle Soria anchored a defensive unit that has become one of the toughest in the conference.
Earlier in the week, the Dolphins delivered a historic 11-0 rout over St. Joseph’s Brooklyn on Oct. 1, featuring eight different goal scorers. Seniors Emily Legler and Shalyn Pryor scored two goals each, while Victoria Gamarra and Eva Puentes provided early offense. Juniors Molly Rowland and Claire Elliott each notched the first goals of their collegiate careers in the Riverdale blowout.
Both Dolphins squads now find themselves near the top of the Skyline standings.
With balanced attacks, steady defenses and deep benches, the University of Mount Saint Vincent has emerged as one of the conference’s most complete programs, and the fall season still has plenty of promise left for Riverdale’s
Dolphins.
