Move your cars (and campers)

Posted

To the editor:

Welcome to Yogi’s Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Riverdale, the Bronx, New York. Or haven’t you noticed?

All along the Henry Hudson Parkway service road — south and north of West 246th Street, and in many other areas of the neighborhood — are the camper vans, and often, the trucks or vans that pull them. There are shades on the windows. And yes, there are people going in and out of them at various times.

No reservations needed if the street is without parking rules.

I have not yet seen portable toilets, but wait, nothing can shock me anymore. Well, almost “nothing.”

I think the law allows 24 hours, but we know about law enforcement lately, don’t we? And so we now can add this to the list of woes.

To continue, have you noticed the old cars being parked on the streets — moved, yes, to accommodate the alternate-side rules — but there, maybe 10 or more daily? They take up your parking place. And mine.

And what about the cars left for the season? These violate the little-known or never-enforced New York City “storage law” for vehicles left over seven days.

These must be tagged by law enforcement who just don’t ever see them.

Some of them can’t be missed — they are covered and protected until their owners return from their winter sojourns. They take up our valuable parking spots, too.

These are hard times. I shouldn’t be concerned with this, should I? But hey, I am around the neighborhood more than ever. I have lots of free time.

So, here I am again. What should we all do?
