Posted

Muhlenberg College, hidden in the trees and located roughly 10 miles from New York City, congratulated greater Riverdale students on the college’s spring semesters dean’s list. Those students who were honored include: Libby Bergier Pesin, Joshua Chait, Yonbue Goodall, Sasson Lonner, Zev Lonner and Madison Rosensaft.

These students held a minimum 3.5 GPA for the previous semester and were recognized for their achievement.

Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg is a highly selective private four-year residential liberal arts institution. It offers baccalaureate and graduate programs to approximately 2,200 students.

The institution aims to shape students’ lives with creativity and compassion to transform them into collaborative leaders through rigorous academic programs in the arts, humanities and natural sciences, and social science, professional programs including accounting, business education, public health, and more.

St. Margaret parent referral

The National Catholic Educational Association reported that catholic schools had a 6.4 percent enrollment drop from 2019 to 2021.

This coincided with the pandemic.

The association said it was the fastest drop they have ever reported in the past 50 years.

However, this year the schools rebounded as they have a 5.8 percent increase nationwide.

St. Margaret of Cortona School in North Riverdale wants to continue to raise the enrollment bar by awarding existing enrolled families with $500 or more for a referral with its new program that started Dec. 1.

However, the referral does not mean the young students must attend Cortona.

Any Regional School in the Archdiocese of New York in full-day pre-K 3 or 4 and Grades K-8 are accepted.

The student must remain enrolled the entire academic year.

However, there are conditions that need to be met. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/SMCSReferral.

National Guard promotions

Major Gen. Ray Shields, the adjutant general for New York state, announced the promotion of the National Guard members in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership last summer.

Jesse McCaskill was promoted from the headquarters and special troop battalion to the rank of staff sergeant.

Daniel Mejiaparra was promoted from the 718th Transportation Company to the rank of private first class.

These greater Riverdale residents were recognized for their best qualities with performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

However, they were also recognized as the few best-qualified soldiers that retain the highest caliber citizen soldiers for a career in the National Guard.

The New York National Guard is a state division of the Military and Naval Affairs.
