I just got an email from Riverdale’s state senator, Alessandra Biaggi, insisting that it’s time to tax the super rich to solve New York’s COVID-19-caused financial crisis.
But the governor appears to consider such taxes to be anathema.
What to do?
Another email gave me an idea. It mentioned the name of a football stadium had changed. Apparently a sponsor with deeper pockets had outbid the previous one.
So I thought, why not sell naming rights to our states? Tax-resistant billionaires would jump at the chance to voluntarily pay for notoriety. With no expense to the state, we could rake in billions of dollars, although admittedly, there would be some personal expense to residents who have to change their stationery.
It wouldn’t take that long to get used to living in New Bloomberg or New Bezos, would it?
