Police seek man they say invaded pair of Kingsbridge, VCP homes Friday

A pair of home invasions Friday just blocks from each other in Kingsbridge and Van Cortlandt Park have police looking for a man they believe could be responsible.

An 89-year-old man living near Van Cortlandt Park said someone knocked on his door just after 10 a.m., on Friday, and was immediately met by a man on the other side of the door pushing his way inside, ultimately stealing both jewelry and a bicycle.

A few hours later, police say the same man knocked on an apartment door near West 232nd Street and Tibbett Avenue. When the 42-year-old woman who lives there answered, the man pushed his way inside again, this time brandishing a weapon. He reportedly forced the woman to give him $150 in cash before taking off.

New York Police Department investigators didn't provide a description of the man, but did release video surveillance of a man they believe committed the break-ins riding an elevator with both a bicycle and what appears to be a woman's purse in his possession.
