Police officers subdued a man with a BB gun who was threatening people at a Kingsbridge  subway station April 13. He was shot in the hand by an officer when he pointed the weapon at police, according to the 50th Precinct.

Lt. Timothy Haney told Community Board 8 members at a recent meeting there was a 911 call of a man brandishing a firearm on the subway platform at 238th Street. Officers responded to the call and were able to identify the individual based on eyewitness reports and “point-outs.” They later arrested him at the West 231st Street subway station at around 8 p.m., police reported.

Cell phone footage obtained by the New York Post caught the moment the man was walking on a train catwalk with a gun in hand. Police could be heard on both sides of the armed man shouting for him to put the gun down.

Haney described how they tried to take him into custody until he pointed what they believed to be a firearm at the time at one of their officers. Fearing for their lives they fired at him one time, striking his hand.

A second shot was also fired once he was on the ground. He was arrested and upon further investigation they learned that the “firearm” was an imitation pistol, specifically a BB gun made to look real, Haney said.

The man was identified as 29-year-old Remie Sanchez of White Plains. He was arrested and charged with two counts of menacing, one count of reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal trespass, and one count of violation of local law.
