To the editor:
After reading, “Rivera continues quest to pass Heath Act for all NY” (in the Sept. 9 edition) I was moved to write.
As a self-employed Riverdale resident and business owner, I continue to take offense at politicians when they state: “In the case of self employed people, they will pay 100 percent of the tax.” These elected politicians, who most likely never ran a business, continue to pick the pockets of us who do.
Since Obamacare, my health insurance cost has risen fourfold. Thankfully, I have been able to afford it. But, not only does Rivera demand I continue to pay for others who can’t do for themselves, but government mandated insurance has made me pay for three additional families beside my own.
I think individuals, families and our elected officials must take personal responsibility for the cost of their own lives and not continue to make unsustainable demands of productive New Yorkers.
