Road to sainthood

Pat O’Brian, left, deputy grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, is joined by Grand Knight Brian Fogarty and Chancellor Bob Stauf as they prepare for the Aug. 13 votive Mass celebration at St. Margaret of Cortona Church celebrated by the Rev. Father Sandro Leyton. The Pro Patria Council 751 was celebrating Father Michael McGivney, who is being considered for sainthood. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882, and had just celebrated his 38th birthday when he died in 1890. Pope Benedict XVI declared McGivney ‘venerable’ in 2008, and was beatified by Cardinal Joseph Tobin in Connecticut on behalf of Pope Francis in October 2020.
