The era of the gun has ended

Another day, another shooting! Welcome to America, where we can agree on nothing.

The road to eliminating the present Second Amendment and rewriting it intelligently will be long and rocky, but a legalized death penalty imposed by citizens against other citizens cannot go on. Not if we think we are a civilized people!

Maybe there was more common sense exhibited by our citizenry over the last 250 years, but based on all the material collected since COVID-19 started, common sense has totally disappeared.

In a civilized country, no individual would own any kind of gun. For those who must enjoy guns, we could license gun clubs and hunting clubs as the only owners. Guns would have to be signed out. If they were to be taken off premises, a plan would have to be registered for their use, and they would have to be returned forthwith.

Anyone caught with a gun and not yet involved with a crime would be liable for a hefty fine and the loss of the weapon. Anyone knowing about a private gun in someone’s possession who does not report it would also be liable for the same hefty fine.

For too long, guns have been a required part of machismo. Surely, there are better ways to demonstrate masculinity!
