UMSV Soccer Teams Stay Hot in Skyline Race

The University of Mount Saint Vincent, UMSV, soccer programs continued their impressive seasons this past week, with both the men’s and women’s teams strengthening their positions in the Skyline Conference standings with clutch performances on Marillac Field.

For the men’s team, a pair of back-to-back results kept the Dolphins unbeaten in 2025. First came a hard-fought 0–0 draw on Wednesday against St. Joseph’s University Long Island, SJNY, a clash between the conference’s top two teams. The Dolphins’ defense was dominant early, holding SJNY without a shot in the first half. Sophomore goalkeeper Samuel Reine came up big late, including a one-on-one save in the closing minutes to preserve the tie.

Jenluis Henriquez, William Sornin and Javier Trujillo led the attack with multiple scoring chances, but the Dolphins were unable to break through.

UMSV bounced back on Saturday with arguably their biggest win of the season, defeating Mount Saint Mary College 2–1 in a rain-soaked contest. After falling behind early in the second half, the Dolphins answered with two late goals. Sean Doyle netted the equalizer — his first career goal — off a perfectly placed corner kick from Sebastian Ciurlizza. With just over eight minutes to play, sophomore Luka Gelevski buried the game-winner off a crisp series of passes from Jacob Grieffenberger, Trujillo and newcomer Brandon Leon.

The win moved the Dolphins to 9-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in conference play, maintaining their spot atop the Skyline standings.

On the women’s side, the Dolphins secured a convincing 4–0 victory over Mount Saint Mary on Saturday, leapfrogging the Knights into third place in the Skyline table. Freshman Ariana Hernandez opened the scoring midway through the first half, followed quickly by junior standout Eva Puentes, who recorded her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Jazzlyn Cedillo extended the lead with a 30-yard stunner, and Puentes capped the scoring off a rebound late in the first half.

The Dolphins’ defense was equally dominant. Led by Cameron Cruz, Dana DeDomincis, Maddie Halford and Hannah Mejia, the unit limited MSMC to just four shots on goal. Goalkeepers Javiera Sanchez and Kaitlyn Grady combined for the shutout, with Grady making four second half saves.

Both programs will look to build on their momentum this week as the regular season enters its final stretch.
