Weighing in at 8 pounds, 12 ounces and measuring 21 inches, Yeniel Plasencia, a boy, was the first baby born in the Bronx in 2023, according to a Montefiore Wakefield spokesperson.
His mother Mendez Arias, a Bronx native, gave birth to Yeniel at Montefiore Wakefield at 2:57 a.m.
The first baby to arrive in New York City this year is Kingsley Mei, who was delivered by Holly Mei at midnight in Brooklyn. He was delivered at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn South in Sheepshead Bay. He weighed 6 pounds, 7.6 ounces and measured 19 inches, according to the hospital. He is the first son of parents Dexin and Holly.
The city’s public health system delivers approximately 15,000 babies annually.
