To the editor:
Though a new playground area has just been completed on the west end of Seton Park and the two existing baseball diamonds are kept in pristine playing condition, the condition of the dog runs have been completely ignored by the city’s parks department.
Though the neighborhood is blessed by having so many canines of all breeds in its midst, the slightest rainfall brings massive flooding into the runs, preventing any safe entry for days on end.
One does not have to be an expert in ground keeping to have the answer to this dilemma. Dump a decent amount of appropriate ground cover, fill all the holes and rake it, even.
I recall that about a year ago, a large pile of wood chips was dumped outside the runs and was left for dog owners to spoon into the flooded areas on their own. Volunteers with shovels literally spent months getting the stuff over the fence. A disgrace and short-lived.
