To the editor:
You are the only mouthpiece of thousands in the Kingsbridge and Riverdale community.
For the last five to seven years I, like many others, walk between Broadway and Bailey using the Albany Crescent short cut.
But every day we face a situation. From the fire station to 231st Street, the sidewalk is so damaged it is lucky if someone does not trip, or maybe they already have.
Beyond that, there is a fire hydrant that remains open every year, April through September. The water creates a big puddle covering the whole width of the sidewalk and it remains throughout the year, rain or shine. Everyone, including children the elderly, step through this dirty puddle finding no alternative.
Last year, I walked to our City Councilman’s office to present him with photos of the sidewalk. But no change. I also filed a 311 complaint.
After a year, I learned they closed the file without doing anything. This February, I filed a new complaint. I checked recently and learned the site was inspected and referred to Department of Environmental protection, but again, it was not repaired.
Today on advice of the customer care representative I filed a new complaint. I will appreciate if you please publish a report on this issue which may help hundreds of pedestrians every single day.
M.A.
