Why the risk?

Posted

To the editor:

Those of us who can only imagine the kind of desperation that compels one to leave children, family, loved ones, and to risk being killed for that effort, must seek to understand why.

Why the risk? Why the desperation that motivates such endeavor?

Fear, of course, is a prime mover. But might there be a higher and more encompassing need? Might that person seek a place in which one can breathe more freely, move freely, speak freely? Be and live freely?

Those of us who are fortunate enough to live in such a place have a moral, ethical, religious obligation to help those in want of that which we have earned simply by having been born here.
