Real estate giant Prudential Douglas Elliman is expanding rapidly and has even taken over a small agency in Riverdale.

Prudential’s acquisition of boutique agency John Edwards Real Estate will mark its first opening in the Bronx.

John Edwards Real Estate, located on Johnson Avenue, has been selling properties in Riverdale for 25 years. It employs 10 agents. The owner, John Edwards, was “born and raised” in Riverdale and attended Manhattan College, according to his website.

Prudential, which covers New York City, Long Island and the Hamptons and has affiliates in other states, has more than 60 offices and employs more than 3,500 agents, according to its website. They have not yet opened their office in Riverdale.

“Our position is that we welcome Prudential Douglas Elliman to Riverdale. We have always worked with everybody,” Vasco Da Silva, executive vice president of Sotheby’s International Realty, which has an office on Riverdale Avenue, said.
Mr. Edwards said he could not comment without approval from Prudential and could not reach the appropriate person.
