A repeat offender jumped over a fence at 2750 Johnson Ave. on Sept. 29 a few minutes after midnight, according to police.

The perpetrator then climbed the fire escape of an apartment in the building in an attempt to open the window while a 39-year-old tenant was at home. According to the Bronx District Attorney’s office, the man had an empty white bag in his hand while on the fire escape. Police said the man fled upon seeing the tenant through the window.

Police believe that the 30-year-old bandit ran down the steps to Ewen Park near West 230th Street and Riverdale Avenue, where he was caught, after the failed intrusion. When police searched the man’s right pocket, they found a clear pipe with a black residue, which was alleged and believed to be residue from crack cocaine, according to the DA.

The offender was charged with attempted burglary in the second and third degrees, criminal trespassing in the second and third degrees and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, according to the DA.

The man allegedly committed three other crimes days before on Johnson Avenue.

On Sept. 21 at around 5 p.m., the man entered another apartment at 2750 Johnson Ave. and stole a laptop and a camera, according to police. He was charged with burglary in the second and third degrees, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal trespassing in the third degree, according to the DA.

At around 9 p.m. that night, the criminal struck at 2500 Johnson Ave. Based on video surveillance, witnesses and a police investigation, authorities believe that the perpetrator entered a parking garage and took uniforms that belonged to the security guards of the parking garage. He was charged with burglary in the third degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal trespassing in the third degree, according to the DA.
