Rosette leads the pack for RKA soccer

“I like being unleashed,” Rosette said. “It’s nice to not have a restriction on how many goals you can score. It was a good learning experience last year for me to look for other girls and create opportunities for them, not just for myself. But I just want to do whatever I can do to help this team.”

Rosette began her season with a three-goal outing in a 4-0 victory over Clinton. She followed that performance with a four-goal outburst in a 5-0 win over Columbus before her three-goal, two–assist outing versus South Bronx in her latest outing. In all, she has scored 10 of RKA’s 19 goals this season and has 13 points in just three games.

So you can see why even opposing coaches like Cohen can’t help but admire Rosette’s ability.

“She’s the best player I’ve ever seen in our league. Absolute, hands down,” Cohen said. “Skills-wise, soccer smarts-wise, everything-wise. You can tell she’s played a lot and at high levels. Last year when we played her she scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and then she just dropped back. All she did the rest of the game was just give beautiful assists to everyone else. It was very nice of her.

“It’s very rare when my team comes off the field and says ‘Wow, she’s such a nice player,’” the coach continued. “I love watching her play. Anyone who enjoys watching good soccer would enjoy watching Sam play.”

Rosette is such a talent that she has known where her college home will be since she was a sophomore, when she verbally committed to the University of Virginia.

“I also play on a competitive team out in New Jersey and the thing with [Division 1] soccer is you commit early,” Rosette said. “Pretty much everyone on my team committed in their sophomore or junior year. That’s just what happens. It was kind of hard to make that decision so early because how do I really know where I’m going to be in three years? But I have a pretty good sense of myself. I know I want to challenge myself both academically and soccer-wise.”
