After working for six years as director of community affairs and constituent services for former Councilman Oliver Koppell and then his successor Andrew Cohen, Andrew Sandler is stepping down from the post to become district manager for Community Board 7.

“I see this as an opportunity to work in close contact with all the elected officials to find a way to do outreach to communities in need,” Mr. Sandler said in a phone interview. “As a district manager, you’re meant to be a liaison, and I hope to bridge that gap.”

As he assumes his new role, Mr. Sandler said he looks forward to working with developers at the forthcoming Kingsbridge National Ice Center to create jobs for local residents and involve neighborhood youths in related programs.

“It all really starts on the local level. That’s where the real problems exist,” he said.

Mr. Cohen, who succeeded Mr. Koppell in 2014, voiced his support for Mr. Sandler’s next phase, which officially kicks off in the first week of February.

“The gain of Community Board 7 is my loss. Mr. Sandler is well-qualified for this position and I believe he will be a great asset to the board. I wish him well in this new endeavor,” Mr. Cohen said via email.

“It’s a loss for me as well,” Mr. Sandler echoed. “I’m sorry to go, but it’s exciting.”
