Busted windows offer portal to valuables

Posted

A 65-year-old man told cops he parked his gray 2019 Chevrolet Traverse on the 500 block of West 236th Street around 5:30 a.m., on Oct. 13, returning a very short time later to find both the front and back passenger-side windows broken, and several of his belongings missing. That included a suitcase, clothing, $10 in quarters, binoculars, phone, a clock, and a first-aid kit.

Other than the coins, police valued the stolen goods at $2,420, and they’re looking into the grand larceny.

Bat-armed duo pummels man

An 18-year-old man traversing the southern end of Washington’s Walk before sunrise reportedly found himself on the wrong end of a baseball bat.

He told police that while walking along the southeast corner of Reservoir Avenue and West 197th Street a little before 6:30 a.m., on Oct. 5, a pair of assailants wielding a bat attacked him, whacking him multiple times, splitting open the back of his head, bruising his forehead, and cutting his finger.

The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.

Nothing but shattered glass in Mazda’s stead

A smashed window could be the clue to cracking an otherwise closed case involving a missing Mazda.

A 50–year-old woman told police she parked her car at the corner of Putnam Avenue and West 238th Street around 2 p.m., on Oct. 5, returning the evening of Oct. 9. But the car was gone.

The driver locked her car before leaving it, police said. But instead of a safe vehicle, they reportedly found broken glass.

Police valued the car — a blue 2000 Mazda Protege — at $3,000.
