Here's what really should matter

To the editor:

For several weeks, some contributors have been obsessed with Israel as well as if calling it an “apartheid” state makes one an antisemite.

Let’s just say it makes one a liar, and leave it at that.

Through thousands of years of history, the Jews as a group have contributed monumental literature, art and individuals who have improved and changed our civilization and culture.

Some modern-day Jews called themselves Israelis, and they have continued in that tradition.

Let’s move on, and concern ourselves with what really matters.

In America today, we have a much more existential problem. Almost half of the people in our country are in thrall to a man who has proved himself to be a liar, cheat, bully, and by his own admission, a sexual predator.

He has denigrated decorated war heroes, and disparages people who have dedicated their lives to the service of this country.

He was complicit in instigating the insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021, and derelict in his duty by letting it continue after the vice president was threatened, and people were killed.

If re-elected, he has promised to dismantle our government and destroy our Constitution.

Sadly, this is our country’s reality, and we should concentrate on making certain that he is never in a position of power again.

Quibbling over Israel is a distraction we cannot afford.
