Man sought who tried to cash $250k in checks

The New York Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying the whereabouts of a man caught on surveillance they believe tried to swindle a senior citizen out of a quarter-million dollars.

Investigators from the 50th Precinct said they received a report from a 67-year-old man who said the bank called him after someone tried to cash two separate checks totaling $250,000. The man was unsuccessful, but he was able to cash a third check for a little over $1,900.

Police believe the man first tried to cash a check at Citibank on Greenwich Street in Tribeca and on West Broadway in the Financial District, but tellers told him no. The man then reportedly journeyed across the Hudson to visit a TD Bank in Union, New Jersey, and was able to cash the smaller check.

Headphones taken on MTA Bus

A 52-year-old man told police someone hit him on the back of the head on an MTA bus, and took his headphones.

It all happened while the bus was near West 235th Street and Henry Hudson Parkway, according to police.

The man couldn’t provide a description of who assaulted and robbed him, but the incident is still under investigation.

Tires, rims taken from RAV4

All four rims and tires were taken from a Toyota RAV4 near the 700 block of Kappock Street sometime between Sunday, June 4 and Monday, June 5.

The vehicle’s owner says he parked his car around 10 p.m., on Sunday, returning the next evening to find his RAV4 on cement blocks.

The tires and rims were valued at $3,000.
