Marble Hill bottle slinger is nabbed

Posted

It was a raucous — and slightly dangerous — start to the weekend in Marble Hill.

A 24-year-old man tossed a glass bottle into a large crowd, police said, on the 5500 block of Broadway’s bustling commercial corridor Aug. 25 around 4:30 a.m. Fortunately, no one got conked by the flying glass.

The bottle-thrower was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.

Bandit hops in Jeep, speeds away

The 50th Precinct urges drivers to secure their cars and property. But some probably aren’t taking that warning seriously — until it’s too late.

A 68-year-old man told police he was making a delivery on the 2500 block of Johnson Avenue in Spuyten Duyvil around lunchtime Aug. 17, when all of a sudden he spotted another guy perched in the driver’s seat of his gray 2016 Jeep Renegade, with the door still wide open.

The Renegade driver — who police say left the keys in the ignition — tried to yank the impostor out, police said, but the man instead sped off north on Kappock Street toward Henry Hudson Parkway.

Police described the Jeep-jacker as around 20 years old, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, with short brown hair, wearing a black baseball cap, black jeans and a white T-shirt. He had a tear-drop tattoo on his face.

Along with the Jeep — valued by police at $20,000 — the driver reportedly rode off with several items the owner left inside, including a wallet, debit card, his ID, and what police described as an iPhone worth $400.

Motorcycle just vanishes overnight

A 60-year-old told police he parked his gray 2016 Honda motorcycle on the 3400 block of Fort Independence Street in Kingsbridge Heights around midnight Aug. 25. When he returned the following morning, however, it was gone.

Surveillance cameras in the area could offer a clue as to who zoomed off on the Honda, which police valued at $3,800.
