During its annual flag placement ceremony, the Woodlawn Cemetery and Conservancy placed 8,600 American flags next to gravesites the week before Memorial Day. There were more than 1,500 volunteers that included Boy Scouts, members of Community Board 7, the city’s veterans affairs department, and St. Barnabas High School students. Volunteers, at left, registered for placing flags utilizing a mapping system for those veterans buried at Woodlawn. Above, the owner of a home on Fieldston Terrace festooned his front yard with flags of the Bronx, the United States, New York state and New York City in commemoration of Memorial Day.
